Excuses or Origin story

There will always be excuses.

In your life, you will always have excuses not to do something. Reasons why you can't feel love, give love, exercise, go to school, finish school, get a job, keep a job, lose weight, gain weight, travel more, be more creative, spend less, save more, be more adventurous, get married, have kids, have faith, forgive others, forgive yourself, cook more, make friends, get rid of friends.... the list goes on forever.

Life is full of horrifying moments and people and places. It can shake you down extremely hard and break you to the very end. It is more than understandable. I am not saying that it isn't okay to feel broken and weak and lifeless. It is beyond rough, it is breakable.

I have learned that your excuse CAN stop you if you allow it to. No one is going to tell you otherwise. I mean, they will try. Everyone will. But it is your excuse, only you know how limiting it actually is. So, it will stop you. If YOU allow it to. In that moment, it is your choice. If you want the excuse, so you don't have to do something or be something... then use it.

I am not saying that it isn't normal to have a list of legitimate excuses. I am just saying that there is always a silver lining somewhere and there are possibilities out there. But unless you stand up again you won't see them. No one would blame you for laying down to heal from something. Just remember to get up again.

The truth is, however deep inside it may be, that if you really want something... your excuse can NOT stop you.

If the excuse is physical, or mental or social or emotional---doesn't matter. We live in an age that even if you can't think of a solution, someone has. It may not be how you imagined it. It may not be how you want it, but it may be. Sometimes you just have to think creatively, but most times you just have to stand up out of the commiseration of excuses and you will see a way and accept it.

I believe that we are children of God. To me, that means that all attributes we ascribe to God, lay dormant within us. We have great power and potential that shouldn't frighten us and make us feel like we are failing to live up to something greater--- but it should give us the boost of power we need to stand in those times when we don't feel we can. It is within us. We can rise above or through or over or up.

So, tell people about your story. List your excuses. Don't apologize for them, but don't make them the center of your story. Make them your origin story. Become something better than what might have destroyed you.
