My sisters and I got together last week to watch Little Women. We love the book... and the movie! (I feel like one can rarely say that.) Our mother read it to us as children before we went to bed, and I have read it multiple times as we grew up. The dynamics of the relationships are brilliantly written, and so of course it was a perfect choice for our girls night out. We made pizza with pesto, fresh mozzarella, and basil from Amber's garden... it was amazing and we painted our faces with fancy masks from Lush. I digress...
During the movie I had an epiphany (a piffy-what?). At one point in the movie, Jo, a writer and very excited about a story that she has just finished, runs to her professor friend, Friedrich Bhaer, and after having read her fun and silly story, says, " Jo, there is more to you than this. If you have the courage to write it."
" Jo, there is more to you than this.
If you have the courage to write it."
I am not a writer. I am a story teller, and would prefer to tell all of you these stories first hand... but I also recognize the importance of writing things down and so I do. You know, for the children... someday... but 'writing' wasn't what hit me in this moment. What hit me was that we are truly more than we think we are. We can do more than we think we can do. If we have the courage to do it. It isn't that you can or can't. It is your choice. It is your courage. Courage is yours if you take it. Life is yours if you take it.
