Lady Balls

Rated semi-inappropriate-though-not-very-surprising-that-I-am-talking-about-it...

Have you heard of this term?

Urban Dictionary:  Equivalent of male slang and connotations that surround the word "balls," altered to accommodate women with the same characteristics Ex: "She did that?! It takes extreme ladyballs to do that."

It means courage. Deep courage. Lady courage. (I both hate and love myself for saying lady courage.) I have used this term over the last few weeks more often than regular so I thought I would break it down for you and then share some insights on the brilliance of the epiphany I have had on the subject.

Pre-Story Facts

I am not a shy person. Yet, I am. Nothing different than most of you I would suppose. My family and close friends see me as outgoing and a story teller while a lot of new people I meet may see me as shy, at first. I will certainly give you that it doesn't last long. Typical of most people as they meet new people I would assume.

Especially around men I am interested in. You know what I am talking about. Their friends, no problem! Them... I am a raving mumbling lunatic. Again, nothing different than what most of you have probably experienced. Don't lie to me, I have seen this unyielding power of awkwardness take almost all of you in situations where our heart may be on the line.

The Story

So I am interested in this boy. Cool, whatever.

So I lady ballsed it up and made some tiny forward steps. And I ran back to my friend Cortney and told her that I had "lady balls" and explained what I did. We were thrilled and she coaxed the horrifying possibilities of the outcome out of my head as any good friend would do. Not too soon after, I took another deep breathe and did it again. This is out of character. Ever since high school (another blog to come, I am sure) I have been extremely sensitive of making any advances towards men, not that in this moment I kissed or hell, even asked this fella out. It was so ridiculously not-a-big deal. Blah blah blah, I returned to Cortney and exclaimed "lady balls 2!"

Her reply...

"Yes, they usually come in two."

...because she is brilliant. I keep brilliance around me. Hoping it rubs off.

The Epiphany

So, today, I was laughing about that super lame-turned-awesome (because of Cortney) moment with my co-worker, the most amazing Charlotte, and she and I were speculating that we were onto something here. In the movie, We Bought a Zoo... they talk about "20 seconds of courage."
