2011 memorial day project

Okay, this year was sort of exciting! You see, we are expanding our house a bit (which we are thrilled to death for as we haven't all been able to sit in the same room without half of us on the floor for many years) and in doing so we needed to re do the roof as well. So to cut the costs of hiring someone to do the entire rood they said we could take off the old one... meaning scrape the tiny rocks and tar off... how kind of them to suggest we do that tedious awful job. But to save mom money... absolutely! Plus she is now reaping the benefits of having 7 children and some of them marrying even more people that we can enslave into family projects. They just didn't know what they were getting themselves into... though to be fair, we didn't warn them.
Once we got under the felt that the tar and rocks were on, it wasn't too strenuous and to be honest this is the first time we have all been over the moon that our house is so small! Less roof!
We took as much of the tiny rocks as we could save and put them around the garden squares that we did last year!
The roof looks so good, and the wood wasn't in the worst shape which was amazing.
This is what it looked like at the half way mark... onto the other side.
Making sure the wagon of rocks we put on the roof didn't roll off... it was touch and go for a bit there.
We were like... We don't need an antenna... go check the TV... it still works... wait... no it doesn't... we have to put it back... hurry! before dad notices... phew!
Then we tore off the swamp cooler... and by tore... I mean we mangled the love out of it... but it did come off. That was all Jake and Mandy.
It was supposed to rain all day, and since it was the only day we could make it... we prayed extremely hard for no rain... and it sprinkled lightly for maybe 5 minutes and then was clear all day! Little miracle there for us, which was wonderful! Next project... the extension... just wait till you see it! It is going to be wonderful! All of us... sitting in the same room... can you even believe it! How amazing is our life?!
